Mom says a lessoned learned

Hello everydoggy. I am back. I have missed everydoggy and my family and my pups. I don't ever want to go through that again. It all started when I was pregnant, the vet Mom took me to told her to feed me puppyfood, and once I had the pups the same vet said mix cottage cheese in with her food. Since a friend of Mom's is a long time breeder she advised Mom to stop giving me puppy food because it could cause me to get pancreatitis, so Mom started me back on my regular food. Well the high fat content from the puppy food added with the fat content of the low fat cottage cheese started the problem. Although it was really mild with just occasional runny poop. Mom thought it was from the food change and gave me plain rice and it cleared up. So then after the pups were weaned Mom stopped with the cottage cheese. But occasionally I would get into the pups food and eat it all up, then mom would give me a doggy cookie. Then we went to take the boys to visit a friend and her furkids and I ate puppyfood there and what Mom brought because she forgot to bring my food. Of course she didn't know what the outcome was going to be. Anyway That was last Thursday when we went and I was fine until Saturday morning. I started having really runny poop and so did the boys , so Mom thought it was from eating the food at her friends house. Well she cooked all of us some rice and we ate it all up. But about 2 hours later i threw it all up and wasn't feeling real well. So off we go to the emergency vet. Well after spending nearly 4 hours outside in the heat because the stooopid lady thought I had Parvo we went back home. Mom sent dad to the store for some pedialyte so I don't get dehydrated and I start doing better and mom tries to get me to eat and the only thing I want is a cookie. So I keep that down and Mom keeps giving me pedialyte and finally we go to sleep. Well about 4 am i wake mom up cuz I am getting sick again. so after I am done she gives me more pedialyte and we go back to sleep. about 6:45am we are up again and this time stuff is just coming out of both ends. I have lost control of my butt. Then Mom sees blood and freaks out. Dad calls the emergency vet and tells them that they better see me as soon as we get there. Well they listened and took me to do some tests and put an Iv in my paw and give me some medicine. h they took xrays to see if I had any foreign things in my stomach. Anywhoo, then we are off to Willows vet because they are the only ones who take the care credit and they take me right in and get me all settled in. I was there until this morning when Dr. Good called Mom to come get me. Mom was so happy she was crying but this time good tears. I had alot of really nice people taking care of me at the Dr.'s place but I am so very glad to be home with my Mom and My boys. Mom sewed to keep from going nuts and the boys well they played alot. Now Mom is giving me special food and I have to take medicine every morning for the next 10 days. and next week I gotta go back to the Dr. so they can make sure I don't get sick again. Anyway Mom says to make sure that you all tell your people that pancreatitis is very dangerous for us doggies to get because it could kill us. Sometimes you may not see any symptoms or you might mistake a few runny poops as eating something bad. So check the fat content in your food if it is higher than 25% tell your peoples to change your food. Love all my doggie friends.

Very good that your mom posted this story. Yorkies are especially sensitive to pancreatitis and it has to be caught very early and treated aggressively. We have to keep them on a seriously strict diet to keep them healthy. I have learned the hard way, just because I didn't know either. Breeders should really prepare you, and good ones do! White chicken or turkey cooked with rice and some veges is a good diet with natural dry food mixed in (no preservatives or excessive fats--such as in puppy food, which is sprayed with more than usual fat). We love our babies and they love us and trust us to know what to give them.
